The Pope of Applause. Today, Leo XIV received a seemingly endless ovation from charismatic Catholics of the Jesus Youth movement, founded in Kerala, southern India, in the 1970s. They shouted “Woo!” and “Woo-hoo!” He responded with a broad smile (wait the whole minute for it). Such applause is routine for Leo XIV. He allows himself to be applauded, cheered and acclaimed every day, sometimes several times a day. One wonders how any ordinary man can endure such constant immersion in adulation.
