Sur deux photographies publiées par le Vatican, les premières depuis son hospitalisation, le Saint-Père apparaît debout, vêtu des ornements liturgiques verts utilisés pendant cette période de l’année liturgique. Sur l’une des images, il a les mains jointes en prière. L’autre, prise pendant la consécration, montre le secrétaire du pape à sa droite. Selon des sources vaticanes, le pape a distribué la communion au cours de la célébration eucharistique. The recommendation follows an extensive consultation involving priests, deacons, religious communities, lay Catholics, diocesan councils, trustees and Catholic schools. Nine in-person meetings were held, and an online questionnaire received 840 responses.
