Dutch Bishop Accepts Teaching Children "Respect for Sexual Diversity"

Bishop Johannes Hendriks, 71, of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, uncritically endorsed the state educational program that children should learn “to respect sexual diversity” without expressing any reservations or critical reflection.

Johannes Hendrik is the bishop "responsible" for Catholic education. He wrote on March 23 an article on Kn.nl to defend and promote the importance of educational freedom, especially for Catholic schools.

However he starts this text by quoting approvingly the Dutch state educational core objectives:

“Article 23 of the Constitution, concerning freedom of education, has long been under fire for allegedly encouraging discrimination. Yet it is precisely thanks to this freedom of education that there are Catholic schools which, in keeping with their ethos, prioritise respect and human dignity.

'Pupils learn the essentials about religious movements that play an important role in Dutch multicultural society, and they learn to treat sexuality and diversity within society - including sexual diversity - with respect.'

This is the wording of Core Objective 38 as set out in the Primary Education Act. Similar descriptions can be found in the core objectives for secondary and special education. The aim of the Act is for schools to ensure a socially safe environment and to focus on citizenship education.”

Bishop Hendriks further states that "it goes without saying that the outcome of the education provided must be in line with the core objectives".
